
An advanced beginner swimmer typically demonstrates fundamental aquatic skills, is comfortable in the water without flotation devices, and is beginning to develop strokes with basic proficiency. Lessons will focus on further refinement of those techniques, building stamina, and fostering water safety awareness.
· Enters and exits water safely (ladder, pool edge, or steps)
· Submerges face and blows bubbles for 5 seconds
· Retrieves objects from chest-deep water
· Demonstrates safe behavior on deck and in water
· Floats on back unassisted for 10 seconds
· Floats on front unassisted for 10 seconds
· Glides on front for 5 body lengths
· Rolls from front to back and back to front
· Performs front kick with kickboard for 10 meters
· Performs back kick with kickboard for 10 meters
· Demonstrates coordinated arm pulls with kicking (front crawl)
· Demonstrates coordinated arm pulls with kicking (back crawl)
· Front crawl (freestyle) for 15 meters with side breathing
· Backstroke for 15 meters
· Elementary backstroke for 10 meters
· Demonstrates correct body position for each stroket)
· Treads water for 20 seconds
· Identifies lifeguard and emergency procedures
· Assists a peer with reaching assist (using a noodle or pole)
· Demonstrates safe entry in deep water (sitting or stride entry)
· Swims continuously for 25 meters using any stroke
· Attempts to swim underwater for 3 meters
· Recovers to standing position from front and back float
· Shows positive attitude and willingness to try new skills
