
A beginner swimmer is comfortable in the water with flotation devices, and is beginning to develop strokes with basic proficiency. Lessons will focus on key fundamentals including comfort, safety, breath control, buoyancy and movement.
· Enters and exits pool safely
· Comfortable putting face in water
· Comfortable with water over head
· Blows bubbles (mouth/nose)
· Rubs eyes with wet hands without discomfort
· Inhales deeply and holds breath
· Submerges and exhales underwater
· Returns to surface and breathes calmly
· Floats on front with support
· Floats on back with support
· Recovers from floating to standing
· Walks in shallow water
· Pushes off wall to glide (front)
· Pushes off wall to glide (back)
· Flutter kicks with support (front)
· Front arm reach in water (dog paddle)
· Back arm movements (elementary backstroke)
· Pulls and pushes through water with support
· Combines arm and leg movements (front) for 5m
· Combines arm and leg movements (back) for 5m
· Attempts to roll from front to back
· Listens and follows pool rules
· Recognizes lifeguard/instructor signals
· Can call for help or identify unsafe situations
· Practices safe pool entry/exit independently
